FIRST GEORGIAN ADVERTISEMENT

Abstract

Nowadays one of the major components of doing business is efficient advertisement campaign. In modern Georgia, as anywhere across the world, advertisement is indeed omnipresent. However, as is shown in the article, advertisement was quite actively used in late 19th-early 20th century Georgia too, when the country was part of the Russian Empire.In late 19th-early 20th century Georgia entrepreneurs as well as merchants and others used Georgian newspapers to draw public attention to their products or services they were offering across the country.In the academic sphere there is a very limited amount of reliable of works decicated to the issue of the first Georgian advertisment, its development and eventual death after 1921. It is only now that scholars have begun to express their interest in researching the question. There are plenty of video footages, inteviews and occassional short articles with numerous mistakes availabe on the internet about rich advertising activity across Georgia during late 19th-early 20th century. Thus, as said above, a distinct lack of academic works on ~advertisment” subject demands paying closer attention to this interesting question of capitalist development of Georgia.Apart from giving a general history of how first advertisements were introduced in the Georgian newspapers such as “Iveria” and others, the article also aims at analyzing the structure, methodology as well as number of ads correlated to the well-being of small businesses across Georgia. The article will also serve as a good starting base for future studies in this uncharted subject.
